Here are the Hippos!
All level 26.
Hippos, fullscreen
520 foes, Arbor Bay hard mode. Something was odd. I had a spawn of 4 packs of some 20+ Cryptwings near a chest. The number is some 150 higher than the one on the Wiki. And the (ressed) Simian is still alive after I vanquished (?).
And one more, Hippo in closeup, only covered by Jin.

That's normal - pop-up enemies only count when you trigger them, so you can still find pop-ups after an area is vanquished. And resurrected creatures only count the first time you kill them.

Nope, not charmable. Wouldn't really be fair to have a level 26 pet now would it?

You can't charm the level 15s either.

In the Nightfall preview there were Hippo's that you could indeed capture.Unfortunately they were removed for being "Too Complex".Srsly.
Actually heres the reason why the removed it on the Guild Wars Wiki
Quote:
The Hippo featured during the Nightfall World Preview Event, ever it was removed before release because it was a model/skeleton that was only useful for the hippo.keep the number of tame-able pets to a reasonable number and keep the asset list manageable,(this is relevant when you're in a map and someone brings a pet and you have to download the assets for the creature,) the hippo was unfortunately removed.
|
Basicly it was removed because Anet couldn't simply reskin it and throw it into GW:EN as "new content".

Making something into a pet and making it an attackable NPC involves different systems. As far as I remember, the hippo had complications as a pet. If you're really curious, search around for some previous discussions. Let's just not start another Anet hate-fest.

Yep, like that. I'm saying this isn't the only thread to have been made on the subject (or contain posts that veer off into the WHYY ANET WHYYYY?! direction )

I saw them in that area as well. Arbor Bay was not an easy area to vanquish. I had 20+ Incubi spawn in one spot just as others in this thread have said. They're annoying little buggers in HM.

Hippos can be very aggressive. But you shouldn't hit them.
Leave them alone so they can multiply. They are endangered.

I don't think it was removed because they can't reskin it. I think it was removed because the model used is different from every other pet, and so when loading both a Polar Bear and a Black Bear, the model is the same. Or a Moa Bird, Flamingo, Strider, Crane all use the same model. Same with Stalkers, Lynx and I THINK the tigers. So in PvP when loading each model you only need to load 6? (Bird, Bear, Flightless Bird, Lizard, Cat, Wolf). The hippo's model is so different to the others it added pressure they didn't consider worth the addition, (my understanding anyway).
